The Union Cupboard on Wednesday accepted a Rs. 1.64 lakh crore package deal for the revival of state-owned telecom agency BSNL, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated.
The package deal has three components – to enhance companies, de-stress steadiness sheet, and enlargement of fibre community.
Briefing reporters on the choice taken by the Union Cupboard, he stated the federal government will make administrative allocation of spectrum BSNL wants to supply 4G companies.
To de-stress the steadiness sheet, Rs. 33,000 crore statutory dues shall be transformed into fairness and an analogous quantity of financial institution loans shall be repaid by the problem of low-interest bonds.
Additionally, BBNL shall be merged with BSNL, he added.
The transfer goals at serving to the loss-making agency compete higher with personal rivals.
The agency has struggled to win prospects as Reliance Industries’ telecoms arm Jio and rivals Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Thought have rolled out 4G companies and aggressively reduce information costs.
